Description

Artist Statement

This painting was inspired by my visit to Blackfoot Crossing at Siksika First Nation Reserve in Southern Alberta. Poplar trees (Populus genus), along with willow trees (Salix genus) are known to accumulate salicin in their bark and leaves. Poplar and willow tree bark has been used for thousands of years to treat pain, as salicin is an effective anti-inflammatory. Upon ingestion, salicin is converted to salicylic acid, the natural compound used by Bayer to make AspirinTM in 1897.

Original $500 (framed). Prints from $200, please inquire.
