Materia Medica

Materia medica is a Latin term from the history of pharmacy, referring to the collected knowledge of substances—primarily plants—used for healing. This body of work relies on only two pigments for a monochromatic effect, conveying a sense of antiquity and evoking the mood of old photographs. The paintings explore plants as agents of medicine, poison, ritual, and transformation. I envision our collective memories as murky and occasionally mythical, as stories grow and change over time.
